About Our Organization

The Shirley & Billy Weir Scholarship honors the memory of two of the Georgia golf community's most favorite people.
Billy Weir was one of the very first sales representatives hired by Karstein Solheim to represent Ping in the late 1960's. Billy often referred to the Ping opportunity as life-altering. It is this premise on which Billy made a decision to create a scholarship foundation to offer deserving young people a similar life-altering opportunity.
Shirley, with her famous "yes, I work here" apron, was a fixture at the scoreboard for many of the state and regional competitions for years. Shirley could always bring sunshine to a cloudy day after less than a stellar round.
Billy was the Ping Man and was rumored to have been the model for the original Ping Man caricature found in the earlier Ping promotional pieces. Billy was a long-time sponsor of events in the Georgia PGA, as well as a benefactor for many of the professionals. Billy was the first person to be honored as a Lifetime Honorary Member of the Georgia Section PGA.

Our Mission
The Weir Foundation was founded by Shirley and Billy Weir in order to give back to the Georgia PGA community that they were a part of for so many years. The foundation strives to provide financial assistance, resources, and support to future college students of Georgia PGA Professionals and those working at PGA accredited courses. We believe that by investing in individual growth, we are investing in the future success of the entire golf industry.
